Ramadan Starts on March 12th in Singapore

The Muslim community in Singapore will observe the holy month of Ramadan from Tuesday, March 12th, 2024.

Ramadan starts with the sighting of the new moon. Based on the Islamic Lunar calendar, Ramadan is the ninth month and signifies one of the five pillars of Islam.

The mufti of Singapore stated that the moon sighting is ‘unlikely to be seen above the Singapore horizon’ when the sun sets on Sunday evening.

As the crescent is too small and does not meet the criteria of Imkarun Rukyah, the members of MABIMS (Religious ministers of Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore) agreed to declare the date as the 12th rather than the 11th.

Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, has started to observe Ramadan on Monday 11th. Mufti Dr. Nazirudin Mohd Nasir said on the event of declaration,

"As such, I am pleased to declare that the first day of fasting for the month of Ramadan falls on Tuesday, Mar 12, 2024."

He further wished all Muslims in Singapore, saying,

"I would like to wish all Muslims in Singapore a blessed month of Ramadan, and let us fulfill our fasts and acts of worship with full appreciation and excellence,”

"May God grant us the spiritual and physical strength to enliven this month as best as we can."

We wish everyone in Singapore a Happy Ramadan and a month blessed with all the blessings and harmony.
