Singapore Welcomes Tourists to Witness Durga Puja 2024

Singapore is eagerly preparing to attract more tourists from Kolkata this October, capitalizing on the global fascination with Durga Puja, which UNESCO has recently recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Kolkata, India, is already known for its extravagant Durga Puja celebrations. Each year, they attract more and more tourists who come to witness this occasion. Singapore, which has a large number of Hindu devotees, also aims to match the attraction heights this year. Durga puja is to be held from October 9th and continue till October 13th in 2024 in Singapore.

“A lot of families have already planned their trips to Singapore this October. We’re expecting a strong turnout this Durga Puja. Travel from India, including Kolkata, has increased by 17% in the first half of the year. Last year, 540,000 Indians visited Singapore between January and June; this year, it’s already up to 630,000,” said Markus Tan, STB regional director.

With flight connections to 17 Indian cities, Kolkata is a key market for Singapore. There are two daily flights between Kolkata and Singapore, and Tan mentioned that airlines are likely to add more capacity starting in October for the winter schedule.
